Explore San Diego, CA

San Diego has a healthy dose of sunshine, a cool surf-town scene, and hands-down the best Mexican food north of the border. Best known for its pristine year-round weather, illustrious surf spots, fêted beach towns, and its world-famous zoo, San Diego is full of attractions. With a flourishing restaurant and bar scene, not to mention the unprecedented rise of craft beer and creative cocktails as of late, there’s truly something for everyone in America’s finest city. You’ll also find championship golf courses, museums, and the energetic Gaslamp Quarter within city limits. Whether you’re looking for a family-friendly destination or a place for a romantic holiday getaway, take a look at our guide for everything you need to know to plan a trip to San Diego.

Best Time To Go

Every month is a good month to visit San Diego, since there really is no such thing as an off-season. If you’d like to avoid a moderate influx in traffic, stick to March through May and September through November, when kids are still in school and vacation times are at a minimum. December to February tends to see the most rain, and June through August are the most crowded months to travel to San Diego because school is out. The sweet spot for visitors is in the fall and winter months, when accommodation rates are lower and weather is still above average temperatures.

August is the hottest month, with an average high of 76°F (25°C) and average low of 67°F (19°C).
December is the coldest month, with an average high of 65°F (18°C) and an average low of 48°F (9°C).

Transportation

Having a car is imperative for getting around San Diego. While buses, cabs, and ride-share options are available, it’s a fairly large and sprawling metropolis.

Know Before You Go

While the weather can best be described as blissful all year round, the coastal areas of the city tend to get chilly at night when the fog rolls in. Make sure to pack a light camisole or windbreaker.

In the Words of Our Guests

  • Everything about this house met or exceeded our expectations.  No surprises from the description.  Very clean, quiet, comfortable, and well maintained – and just a pleasant home to return to each night and start the next day.  Homeowner checked in by text to provide local guidance to stores, restaurants, etc., and was quick to respond to our questions.  We definitely recommend this house.

  • I’ve rented quite a few houses over the years in Palm Springs – and every one has some disappointment, but not this one. It’s the perfect size in the perfect neighborhood.  And, it’s beautiful!  The design and finishes of the house are flawless – you’ll want a martini when you walk in the door!  And it’s comfortable – amazing beds, fantastic pool and kitchen.

  • “From the location, to the amenities and stunning patio and yard space, to great host!! Rodney had a sweet note and delicious cookies waiting upon our arrival. He texted us to ensure we were able to check in okay (which was early). His hospitality and very adorable home was a perfect fit for us to spend the weekend as a family!”
